Meet Finn! This cute little, 11 year old, registered Icelandic, Chestnut Tobiano (Piebald), gelding, sweetie is looking for a new home along with his brother Odin. Here is what their current owner has to say:
Finn is a sweet tempered horse that likes people. He aims to please. He likes to run and appreciates regular exercise. Finn is a loving fella who enjoys quietly sauntering up behind you to affectionately lick your head.Our horses have been raised with a philosophy of kindness, respect,
and relationship. They have participated in groundwork-based
equine-assisted mental health training and facilitated activities
inspired by the EAGALA philosophy. While we do not wish to overstate
their experience or present them as seasoned therapy horses, they have
been thoughtfully prepared for this type of work and have consistently
demonstrated the calm, respectful, people-oriented qualities that make
Icelandic horses so remarkable.They are:
● A bonded pair and must remain together.
● Comfortable with routine veterinary and farrier care.
● Well handled and accustomed to calm, respectful groundwork.
● Current on their routine health care.
● Accompanied by veterinary and farrier references.
● Supported by photographs and videos documenting their care,
handling, and training.
Because they are Icelandic horses, we are seeking a home in a cooler
climate whenever possible. If located in a warmer region, their home
must include excellent heat management, including a shaded barn with
fans during the hottest months of the year.
Equally important, they need generous pasture and daily turnout. One
of the primary reasons we are making this difficult decision is our
belief that they would benefit from significantly more grazing space
than we are able to provide. We are looking for a program or home
where they can enjoy a rich, natural herd life while continuing
meaningful work.
Our ideal placement would be with a nonprofit or professional
equine-assisted mental health program whose philosophy closely matches
our own—one that values the horse as a partner rather than simply a
therapeutic tool. We are especially interested in organizations that
emphasize welfare, relationship, and ethical horsemanship.
For the right program, we are willing to gift Odin and Finn rather
than sell them. We ask only that the receiving organization provide
transportation, demonstrate the financial ability to maintain their
high standard of care, and share our commitment to their lifelong
well-being.
Because finding the right home is so important, we expect to have
thoughtful conversations with interested programs regarding their
facilities, pasture, herd management, veterinary care, workload, and
long-term plans for the horses. References are appreciated, and we are
happy to provide our own.
We are not in a hurry. We would rather wait for the right home than
place them quickly.
