Meet Ranger! This handsome, farm hunk came into Hope for Horses a few years back. He lived by himself for many years without shelter or much care as the former rescuer explained to us. We brought Ranger into our training program at, Fairwinds Farm as he was sound, a younger horse, with zero background as far as under saddle education and fairly pushy. We have found if we can help them become better citizens on the ground and if possible help them become ridable horses then they have a much better chance at adoption. So, off to “camp” Fairwinds he went! He was a bit tricky to truly connect with at first, but once he discovered that a human could offer him a good deal, he quickly enjoyed learning how to become a gentleman on the ground and then under saddle he went. Ranger is now a very, very well educated pasture ornament, that would’ve made a stellar trail horse and a wonderful partner. Unfortunately by the time he was ready for adoption he started showing signs of discomfort through his behavior. We explored further and have discovered that Ranger has an aggressive form of cancer and that he was communicating to us. We were very disappointed, but so happy to know we listened to his signs and caught it early. He has received much needed veterinary care and he is monitored on the regular. We decided as long as Ranger is living a happy (don’t let his ears fool you!) life and not showing signs of extreme discomfort, then we will continue his care and love him until he tells us otherwise. Any support towards Rangers continued veterinary care and for helping keep his belly full, would be a wonderful help! He is a special guy, you gotta know him to get it. Every mare that has ever met nose to nose with Ranger has fallen head over hoof for him, we bet you will to❤️
