MAYA

  • AGE:  18
  • BREED:  Standardbred/Mustang Cross
  • SEX:  Mare
  • STATUS:  Companion
  • MORE INFO:  Maya came to Hope after being rescued from the Feedlot, where she was destined for slaughter.  She was in very bad shape-starved and injured.  She is slowly gaining weight and her wounds are healing.  She has dropped fetlocks, which will eventually become painful and cause lameness.  She will not ever be able to be ridden because of this.  Maya is very distrustful of humans, but hopefully, with time and kindness, will learn to accept love.  For now, she requires costly vet, farrier, and nutritional care.  If you are able to sponsor Maya, or help with this poor girl's care, please sponsor her by emailing hopeforhorses@aol.com or, if you know the amount from above that you would like to give, you may sponsor her now by selecting the button below.

PRINCESS Ruth

  • BREED:  Arabian/Morgan Cross
  • AGE:  Mid 20's
  • SEX:  Mare
  • SUITABILITY:  Lead line or light riding, due to age
  • MORE INFO:  Ruth was surrendered to Hope when her previous owners could no longer care for her.    Though she seems to be perpetually grumpy, she is a sweet mare and loves to be groomed!  She's a grulla, which is her unusual coat color, and has an extremely heavy coat, so needs body clipping in the summer.  She is perfectly safe, but is only suitable for light riding, due to her age.  She is completely sound and healthy.  Ruth is also available for adoption and is listed on our Horses to Adopt tab.  Until she finds a new forever home, you may sponsor her.  If you know the amount from above that you would like to give, you may sponsor her now by clicking the "Sponsor Ruth" button below, or by emailing hopeforhorses@aol.com

AMBER

  • AGE:  25
  • BREED:  Arabian
  • SEX:  Mare
  • STATUS:  Amber is a former starvation case from Haywood County that came in with 9 horses all in one day.  A 'trail riding' business had been putting western saddles on her and heading her down the trail in her emaciated state.  Her before photos are shocking. Currently, Amber is a somewhat hard keeper, but a lovely older lady!  She is very sweet,  but guarded with receiving attention.  Sponsor Amber by emailing hopeforhorses@aol.com or, if you know the amount from above that you would like to give, you may sponsor her now by selecting the button below.

GRACE

  • AGE:  21
  • BREED:  Paso Fino
  • SEX:  Mare
  • STATUS:  Grace is a beautiful, registered little Paso Fino mare. She was found starving in Haywood County 3 years ago with a pasture mate who has since passed away. She has dropped rear fetlocks which are not causing her lameness issues yet, but at some point will. She is an easy keeper in the summer and a disaster in the winter to keep weight on and she wrestles with laminitis as well. She is super sweet yet guarded with her affection.  Sponsor Grace by emailing hopeforhorses@aol.com or, if you know the amount from above that you would like to give, you may sponsor her now by selecting the button below.

REESE

  • AGE:  10
  • BREED:  Quarter Horse
  • SEX:  Mare
  • STATUS:  Reese has fancy bloodlines, but she was diagnosed with bilateral cataracts which were causing progressive blindness, when she was 4 years old. Her owner was not willing to go the mile and have surgery done to correct this, so she was surrendered to Hope. Due to her extreme cuteness, young age, and thanks to a story on WLOS, Hope was able to raise funds for the surgeries. It was a long and difficult rehab situation as the youngster did not always behave well for post op medicine time! We were told by the surgeons at UT that her depth perception would be questionable, and unfortunately, it is not great. We adopted her to a person that used her for dressage/arena type work (perfect since she didn't have to worry about topography) for several years, but then an incident occurred that made that person lose trust in Reese. Today, she is now being fostered with other adopted horses, Ginger and baby Skye in Fairview, with a wonderful family that love her and work with her limitations. She is totally in their 'back pocket' whenever allowed!  Sponsor Reese by emailing hopeforhorses@aol.com or, if you know the amount from above that you would like to give, you may sponsor her now by selecting the button below.

sparkY

  • AGE:  7
  • BREED:  Miniature Horse
  • SEX:  Gelding
  • STATUS:  Sparky is spunky, so he requires adult handling at this time.  He came to us as an aggressive, neglected stallion but is now enjoying a wonderful life, full of attention and companionship.  You can sponsor Sparky by emailing hopeforhorses@aol.com or, if you know the amount from above that you would like to give, you may sponsor him now by selecting the button below.

Joey

  • AGE:  22
  • BREED:  Miniature Horse
  • SEX:  Gelding
  • STATUS:  Joey, our precious tiny mascot, was surrendered to Hope by a family facing financial crisis - his deteriorating eye sight, prevented them from being able to sell him.  Through the years, he has shared his gentle spirit with many and has been a huggable horse to our tiniest visitors.  Sponsor Joey by emailing hopeforhorses@aol.com or, if you know the amount from above that you would like to give, you may sponsor him now by selecting the button below.

DOLLFACE

  • AGE:  16
  • BREED:  Egyptian Arabian
  • SEX:  Mare
  • STATUS:  Dollface (and her mother) were surrendered to Hope at birth because of her facial deformities.  She also has some neurological issues.  Because of her many special needs, she is not adoptable and will have love and sanctuary at Hope for all her days.  Sponsor Dollface by emailing hopeforhorses@aol.com or, if you know the amount from above that you would like to give, you may sponsor her now by selecting the button below.

MUSTANG SALLY

  • BREED:  BLM Mustang
  • SEX:  Mare
  • STATUS:  Sally and her foal were surrendered to Hope after being badly abused and neglected.  Sally lost an eye from the abuse.  Happily, Sally's foal has been adopted into a wonderful, loving home, but due to the abuse and resulting behavioral issues, Sally will probably never be adoptable.  She has made great progress over the years and can receive cautious grooming.  Sponsor Sally by emailing hopeforhorses@aol.com or, if you know the amount from above that you would like to give, you may sponsor her now by selecting the button below.

RED GIRL

  • AGE:  27
  • BREED:  Quarter Horse
  • SEX:  Mare
  • STATUS:  Red Girl came to Hope several years ago when her owner was diagnosed with cancer and became unable to take care of her.  She has never been abused or missed a meal, but parting with her owner was an emotional event.  She has been fostered with one of our previous adopters.  If you would like to sponsor this sweet old girl, you can do so by emailing hopeforhorses@aol.com or, if you know the amount from above that you would like to give, you may sponsor her now by selecting the button below.
